Pres. Obama today signed the bill to make changes to the Veterans Administration. It provides $16.3 billion so the Va can hire thousands of doctors, nurses and other health professionals at close to 1,000 of the agency’s hospitals and outpatient clinics nationwide. The law also changes employment rules, making it easier for senior executives to be fired if their performance is found lacking or because of negligence. The legislation also has $10-billion to be spent over 3-years to pay private doctors and other health professionals to care for qualifying veterans who can’t get timely appointments at VA facilities, or who live more than 40-miles away from one.
