US Officials Raise Questions About Malaysia Plane Shootdown and Russians

U.S. officials say Russian separatists, believed to have used a Buk antiaircraft missile system to shoot down a Malaysian airliner in eastern Ukraine yesterday probably needed Russian assistance to make it work. A Pentagon spokesperson says it strains credulity to believe that separatists could have used the mobile launched medium range surface to air missile system without Russian support and technical help. U.S. intelligence and crash investigators will want to know whether Russian military personnel were involved, in training Ukrainian militants or actually operating the system.
